Kefr Berem and Kibbutz Baram Plan

Architectural Symbols

Kefr Berem and Kibbutz Baram Plan
1/10
2015-2016

The ruin is a transitional stage between the full existence of a structure and its disappearance, encompassing romance and endless possibilities for filling in the blanks. Until 1948 Kefr Berem was a Christian Arab village, and today its ruins are hidden from the eyes behind thick vegetation. Opposite to the village stands Kibbutz Baram, intact and strong. This research project analyzes the ruins as an architectural political symbol and offers a look into the Israeli spatial reality through the tension between the built and the ruined.
